Hakan GokalpHead of Secondary
Mr Gokalp is a former physics teacher who has held Head positions at two schools in Bangladesh. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Suleyman Demirel University. His hobbies include reading and football.
Juliette HendersonAcademic Coordinator
Mrs Henderson is a qualified teacher from England, who has taught at international schools in Albania for the past four years. She holds a BA with Merit; an LLB with Merit; and a MEd with Distinction in Professional Education and Training from University College London - ranked first in the world for studies in Education. Mrs Henderson is the Academic and Professional Development Coordinator at MIST, as well as the Cambridge Exams Officer.
Alesha EvansGeography Teacher
Ms Evans gained a BA in Political Science and Social Studies from Western Washington University in 2004. She later completed her Secondary Teaching Certificate in Social Studies and ELL at the same university. In 2009 she completed a Master's Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from the School for International Training. Alesha has been teaching since 2007, and has taught English and humanities at international schools in Morocco, Tanzania, Italy and the USA. Her hobbies include traveling, hiking, photography, and finding beach glass.
Ms Lonie graduated from Aberystwyth University in 2013 with a degree in Sport and Exercise Science, before going onto the University of Canterbury Christ Church to study mathematics and qualifying as a teacher in 2017. Since becoming a teacher, she has completed several educational research projects linked to secondary-level mathematics and recently completed a PGCE Masters at the University of Northampton. My research has lead to specialisms in Mathematical literacy, problem solving, Algebra and Shape. My Hobbies include all things sports and outdoor activities. I play Rugby Union and regularly camp, hike and canoe around the country in my spare time.
Elda RakoMusic Teacher
Ms Rako is a former music lecturer who has been teaching at MIST since 2015. She holds both a bachelor’s degree in Musicology and a Master of Science in Music History from the University of Arts, Tirana. Elda’s hobbies include reading and playing badminton.
Ozgur KircakMathematics Teacher
Mr Kircak graduated from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey with Mathematics degree. He then worked as a Maths teacher in Turkey, Ukraine, North Macedonia and in Senegal. When he worked in Macedonia, he had the chance to coach and mentor gifted students in Maths for National and international Mathematical Olympiads. Since then, besides teaching Maths he prepares students for mathematical Olympiads. He is interested in creating mind- reading games and implementing them in his classes. He attended several workshops organized by Cambridge International and currently studying IB certification at University of Toronto.
Irda DervishiAlbanian Language Teacher
Ms Dervishi has completed her PHD and has attended many conferences on Albanian language development, as well as publishing articles on language research. She holds a Master’s in Historical language from the University of Tirana. Irda has been teaching secondary Albanian language at MIST since 2016, also is a lecturer in University of Tirana, “Fakulteti i Historisë dhe i Filologjisë”. Her hobbies include swimming, reading, walking.
Jonida BalliuEconomics Teacher
Ms Balliu holds both a Bachelor and a Master degree in Banking and Finance from Epoka University. From October 2015 till August 2017 she worked as a research assistant at the Economics Department at Epoka University. Also she has formerly worked as an economist in the private sector and as a finance specialist in the public sector. Jonida has been teaching Economics in high school at MIST since September 2018.
Klaudia PiroliBiology Teacher
Ms Piroli holds both a Bachelor in Biology and a Master in Science from Tirana University, having qualified in the top percentile of her class. She is committed to further training, and has completed Cambridge certification in teaching both A level and IGCSE Biology. Klaudia has presented and acted as keynote speaker at two CLIL conferences. She speaks Italian and English, and her main hobby is reading.
Rexhina DervishiICT Teacher
Ms Dervishi holds both a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Computer Engineering, which she gained from Epoka University.Completed two professional training programs respectively in: Programming and Web Design from Ikub Academy Tirana. She has worked as a secondary ICT teacher in MIST for almost four years. Mentored students in different competitions including Robotics, Programming and Web Design projects. Rexhina’s hobbies include photo editing, music and travelling.
Klodiana KasoFrench Teacher
Ms Kaso qualified from the Department of Foreign Languages, University of Tirana. She underwent subsequent training in Rochefort, France, where she studied Teaching Methodology for the French Language; later becoming an examiner for the TEFand DELF/DALF exams in Alliance Française de Tirana where she is still engaged in teaching French. Klodiana has been as French teacher since 1995 and has around 12 years experience at MIST. Her hobbies include travelling, swimming, poetry, music, writing in French and discovering new places.
Oriana DhamoChemistry Teacher
Ms Oriona holds an Msc from la Sapienza University of Rome in Physical Chemistry of Biologically oriented systems. She has experience in research and development in dispersed systems, bio and nanotechnologies, as well as teaching advanced levels in chemistry. Her hobbies include travelling, spending time with her daughter and family.
Lesley BarretHistory Teacher
Mrs Barrett is a History teacher with a passion for her subject. She holds both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in History from the University of London and a teaching certificate from the University of Nottingham. She has taught at International Schools in many parts of the world including Jordan, Nigeria and Turkey. When she gets the chance, she likes to travel and explore the history and culture of other countries.
Edlira YmeriPhysics Teacher
Ms Ymeri holds both a Bachelor in Physics and a Master in teaching physics for both middle and highschool from Tirana University. She is committed to further training, and has completed Cambridge certification in teaching both A level Physics. Edlira has been teaching since 2011.
Robert CookEnglish Teacher
Mr Cook (Ba Hons, 1st class, Durham) transitioned into full time teaching after working in the development sector in Northern Albania. He has taught English language and literature in various contexts since 2008, of which 2 years were spent lecturing at Beder University. He spends his time outside of school enjoying life with his wonderful wife and three adorable young children.
Roza PaliAlbanian Language Teacher
Ms Pali has over twenty years experience as a secondary Albanian teacher, working in both Greece and Albania. She holds a master’s degree in Albanian from “Eqerem Çabej” University of Gjirokastra. Her hobbies include traveling, community and volunteer work, writing and walking.
Afroviti KapxhiuESL Teacher
Ms.Kapxhiu holds a Bachelor degree in English Language and Literature as well as a master degree in Professional Master in English Teaching for high schools.She is licensed to teach English in high school.She has been teaching for almost 3 years.She has been a teacher assistant for 1 year and now for almost 2 years she's teaching English as a Second Language at MIST. When she is not teaching, she enjoys cooking ,dancing,reading and spending time with her beloved.
Nurisa Novaku XheliliAlbanian Language and Literature Teacher
Mrs Novaku holds a Bachelor degree in Albanian Language and Literature from University of Tirana, as well as a Master degree on Teaching Albanian Language and Literature. She is licensed and has been teaching at MIST since 2018. Nurisa Novaku is a devoted reader and inspires to be a writer and publicist. Besides literature, her hobbies include interior design, drawing and music.
Xhulia GjiniAlbanian Language Teacher
Ms Gjini have a bachelor degree in Albanian Language and Literature from University of Tirana ( Faculty of History and Philology) and a master degree in Teaching Albanian Language and Literature from University of Tirana ( Faculty of History and Philology). She studied six months at University of Huelva in Spain as an Erasmus + student. Her hobbies are reading and travelling.
Michael GrahamEnglish Teacher
Mr Graham has been teaching in various countries around the world such as South Korea, Ethiopia and Ecuador before coming to Albania. He holds a BA in English and Sociology and a PGCE in Secondary English from the University of Teesside. In his free time, he enjoys football, cooking, reading, rock climbing, hiking and traveling.
Denanda CanajAlbanian History Teacher
Ms Canaj holds both a Bachelor and a Master degree in teaching History and Geography for both middle and high school from the University of Tirana. She is committed to further training at Reading and Writing for critical thinking organized by SOROS. Denada is one of the longest serving staff at Memorial International School of Tirana, having worked here for more than 15 years. She has been teaching for 3 years at Mehmet Akif Boys, and some years in public state schools. Ms. Denada enjoys passing her free time with her family.
